Trimount Energy Storage - Community Engagement

The Trimount project site is a contaminated major oil terminal site in a designated environmental justice community in Everett, Massachusetts.

Remediation of the site and redevelopment with the Project will clean up historic spills and contaminants, reduce ongoing air pollution, and will be thoughtfully designed to fit in with the surrounding area.

The Trimount project will increase tax revenues to the city of Everett and Everett public schools. Trimount is a story of many benefits that Jupiter looks forward to telling.

The next public hearing for the project with Massachusetts’ Energy Facilities Siting Board is set for Tuesday, April 8th, at 6:30 p.m. For more details, please see the official notice below.

Outreach

Trimount is committed to a comprehensive community engagement process. Trimount has worked and is working with environmental groups and community groups for outreach and will continue that outreach in an ongoing and iterative process. The outreach strategy includes a comprehensive plan of outreach materials (website, direct hardcopy mailings, brochures, community meeting signage, notice publications), identification of appropriate additional languages for publication of materials, and a schedule of public informational meetings to gather and incorporate community input. Additionally, MEPA outreach related to the Phase 1 waiver is now completed. When additional public meetings or hearings are scheduled, additional information will be posted here.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and accessibility

Trimount is committed to fostering workplaces that embrace and value diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. Trimount is currently working to identify appropriate partners in the construction trades to support pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs specifically to support job creation for Everett residents. Trimount will work with construction partners to further advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility during the project construction phase.

Jobs & Economic Impact

Trimount currently estimates that site remediation work will occur through early 2026, followed by construction of the battery energy storage facility. The construction of the battery energy storage project will support hundreds of jobs per year.

Jupiter also expects to permanently staff 5 to 10 personnel directly in on-site Project maintenance.

Safety

Trimount’s top priority is a safely operating site and Jupiter Power’s standard approach incorporates safety into every stage of the project. During operations, the project will not produce fumes, pollution, odor, dust, or other offsite impacts that would result in health impacts to those nearby. Additionally, since the site is primarily operated remotely, and a large staff is not needed onsite daily, the project will not lead to increased traffic on local roads.

Trimount is fully committed to training for first responders and mutual aid departments in advance of project operation and annually thereafter and has begun discussions with the Massachusetts Fire Marshal and local fire departments in Everett, Boston, and Chelsea. Historically, Jupiter has coordinated with each local first responder team to develop a site-specific Emergency Response Plan at every project that it operates. We view our relationship with the first responder community to be integral to our continued safe operations and look forward to building relationships in Everett and surrounding communities.

Battery energy storage facilities that are properly designed, operated, and maintained have very low failure rates worldwide. Each battery module within the containers is individually controlled and monitored, providing 24/7 oversight of every component of the Project. Each enclosure is equipped with an integrated system of sensors, alarms, and fire detection and management systems that are monitored by Jupiter Power’s Operations team. The operational management systems will be designed, installed, and operated according to national Fire Code standards and regulations, which include energy storage-specific regulations. The system is designed such that if, in the low-likelihood chance that a fire did occur, the event would be contained within a small area of the project site, would not spread off-site, and would not pose a risk to the general public or first responders responding to the event.
